If you Google Aragawa restaurant, you might be surprised: it does not look like a lavish restaurant. Actually, it is located in the basement of an office building, and it’s certainly not pretty. The décor is bland and uninteresting, but the food makes up for all of it!

Aragawa is best known for its incredible steak, mainly because they serve the best grade meats from purebred Tajima cattle that are raised for more than 28 months in the Sanda region of Hyogo Prefecture. The incredibly high price of a dish at Aragawa is explained by the quality of meat, which is unmatched in Japan.

Depending on when you visit the restaurant, you get a different menu: chef Giovanni utilizes the fresh ingredients that are prominent during a specific season, so the menu for autumn 2019 is vinaigrette of summer vegetables, crunchy green beans from La Cote, sprinkled pillow of tomatoes from Vaud, and lobster refreshed with coral and beef from Canton de Vaud glossed with figs, according to their website.

It is an extremely exclusive and pricey restaurant: you have to make reservations 3 weeks prior, and the whopping $595 price tag does not include beverages or taxes. It is understandable, however, that the restaurant is so pricey; it is one of the only two sushi restaurants in North America that features a sushi bar made of a solid piece of Hinoka wood from Japan, which costs around $260k.

Per Se is a renowned restaurant that belongs to the Thomas Keller Restaurant Group. It was opened in 2004, and it is chef Keller’s third 3-Michelin-starred property. The restaurant serves French and New American cuisine. Its current chef de cuisine is Corey Chow.

Per Se offers a daily tasting menu, but if you’re vegetarian, you can opt for the equally luxurious daily vegetarian tasting menu, as well! The restaurant is also renowned for its incredible wine collection, with over 2,000 bottles to choose from.
